Winter/Winter

So my lovelies my Winter/Winter collection is here!  Stay tuned for more pics and their availability in my shop but here's a few pics of each to whet your appetites:
Lush deep black velvet Joan wiggle dress

Forever Summer V-backed dress

WinterBerry fully lined cape
WinterBerry 3/4 sleeve pencil dress

Melbourne Black Cowl Neck dress

Crimson, Fur Trimmed Big Bad Red full length cloak

Aren't they lush?!  I am quite excited about them if I do say so.  This shoot was fantastic, I had my gorgeous models (Nat, Maya and Anna), Renee did her glorious magic with the make up and hair and this was my first shoot with Cesur, of Cesur Sanli photography (you have to check out his beautiful work here) and I couldn't be happier or expect a more professional turn out.  Thank you all, you are forever in the LeahMay good books!

LeahMay Launch Fun Times

So in very exciting and yay news LeahMay had our first event at the end of last month.  Being a (mostly) online business it hadn't really occurred to me that such an 'in the flesh' event was an option until my dear friend Christina (also my publicist) opened my eyes.  Thus the LeahMay Winter/Winter Launch was conceived!  We chose the Winter/Winter theme as I am going from one winter (here in lovely Melbourne) to another (over in lovely Edinburgh) and wanted pieces that could transition.*

So with friends of LeahMay we celebrated at Little Markov bar with bubbly, fabulous clothes from my new collection (if I do say so myself) and little goodies to take home (LeahMay handmade scented drawer pillows).  I got to introduce the LeahMay people who are important to me to each other - friends, customers, bloggers (yay Lilli and Nyx), photographers - and we all got to try on capes (one of the key elements of my collection), take photos and chat.  I am declaring the night a huge success so thank you everyone who was involved/came along!

Here are some lovely pics of the lovely people at my lovely event:
Alex in WinterBerry and matching cape, Nat in lush black velvet wiggle

Nat, me, Maya - all in LeahMay

Maya in Forever Summer dress and matching cape

The fantastic Christina, in custom LeahMay

Champagne and fashion - what can be better?

The perfect model is always ready for the camera

More champagne!

The fantastically adorable Lilli

The LeahMay team!

The Winter/Winter pieces will be up in my shop within the week and there will be sneak peeks and specials announced on my facebook page and twitter beforehand.

*That's right peeps, in August I leave Australia for an adventure in the UK and Europe but fear not the shop will stay open and I will be sewing away on the other side of the globe!

It's a party!

Tomorrow night, the 31st of May, at Little Markov bar on Drummond St at 7.00pm - 9.00pm I will be hosting a little party.  An opportunity to mingle with other vintage fashion fans, dress up and drink champagne (first glass on me), see some of my pieces in the flesh (or rather the fabric) and go home with a little Leah May goodie.

So if you're in the area, or you're willing to make a trip to the area, please come and join me!

Candy

Thanks to a rather fabulous (and raunchy) add for Calvin Klein that my dear friend - and publicist - sent me in an email this morning I realised that it's been a while since I've enjoyed some truly good man candy.  My eye candy for the last few months has focused more on fashion than the people wearing it and while that love still continues it's nice to have a little variety.  So for those of you who, like me, like to have something yummy (that doesn't go straight to your hips) every now and again here is some candy.
Ahhhh Becks

Man Candy AND Fashion Candy

Cary Grant - classic.

Soccer players always look so good in their underwear...

Gotta love '90s Brad

Sean Connery if you keep looking at me with those bedroom eyes I won't be responsible for my actions

I can't help it, I love Hugh as Wolverine, so dirty and muscly and sharp.

I also love Jake, but what I really love about this pic is that even though he's in tighty-whiteys, his socks match the carpet and he's mimicking Grace Jones he's still hot.  Extra credit.

The photo my friend sent me this morning.  Thanks Christina.

Destined for Dresses

While unpacking, organising and repacking my boxes from my last move/trip overseas I found my baby book.  With the nostalgia that comes from looking at how cute we were as kidlets (rosy cheeks, chubby legs, hair in pigtails) I also realised I was destined to have a preference for gorgeous outfits and tailor-made clothes.  Before I was even old enough to remember I was extremely well dressed.  Once I started being dressed – for the first year I seem to only wear a singlet and naught else, I’m going to go with the tropical climate rather than my parents being reluctant to cloth me.  As mentioned my Nana was a remarkable seamstress and all my outfits are made by her, smocked by her and accessorised with matching cardies/tights/shoes by her.
One of the Nana cardies, to match the dress she made me.

That's right, matching hat AND mittens

Early Nana dress, can't tell in this pic but my wool tights have matching smocking on them

Second birthday dress, made by Nana

There was reoccurring theme of scotty dogs in Nana's work.  What I'm really showing off here are my new (and first pair of) red boots

More fantastic smocking by Nana

Yep I was just meant to have fabulous clothes all my life, just like my brother was destined to be a chef (there's barely a photo of him as a babe/kidlet without food also being prominent).  Looking at your baby photos what were you destined for?

L'uccello

Every now and then I wander into the nicholson building on the corner of Flinders lane and Swanston and am reminded why and how much I love it.  Every time I vow to shop there on a regular basis (funds permitting of course) and every time I leave with bags of goodies.  My latest venture was last weekend and I discovered a new shop (new since my last visit, it's actually been there for about a year now) called l'uccello.  It is devine.  Full of crafty bits and pieces, vintage wonders, lovely fabrics, wools, threads, buttons, curiosities and lost treasures.  I wanted to bundle up the whole shop and take it home to play with. If you're into craft, sewing, collections, vintage or lovely little gifts (for either yourself or others) you have to check it out.  I will certainly be making repeat visits.

And they have a blog! http://luccello.blogspot.com/
